Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival Wrap
Thanks to everyone… musicians, sponsors, music lovers, and everyone else who helped make the 2007 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival such a huge success.
There was such an abundance of incredible music this year and, happily, an abundance of listeners to enjoy it.
The Age review (Tuesday May 8th) stated:
“The two high profile events of the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival – the Commission Concert and Big Arse Sunday – are held only a week apart, but in some ways could not be more different. You could take a five-minute sample from each event… and wonder if both could possibly hail from the same musical planet. Yet it is precisely this creative catholicity that gives Melbourne Jazz Fringe its edge.”
And it’s precisely this incredible diversity that this festival was set up to celebrate.

The live music network, New Found Frequency, recorded many of the concerts which are available as streams or on CD through their website www.newfoundfrequency.com
Concerts available include:
20th Century Dog at Big Arse Sunday (anyone who was there knows that this was a truly incredible set)
Colin Hopkins Trio with Silo String Quartet at BMW Edge (Commission Concert)
Elana Stone/Stephen Magnusson/Julien Wilson at BMW Edge
Twelve Tone Diamonds at Big Arse Sunday
There are heaps of other great sets available…please check out the New Found Frequency site, they did a really excellent job with these recordings and were great guys to work with.
Congratulations to Anita Hustas (pictured at top with Anemone) who was the winner of the inaugural Atlantis Sound Recording Award. Anita leads the trio Anenome, which was featured in the festival and performed in a number of other projects. In addition, Anita is on the organising committee for La Mama Musica.
