Have you ever wanted to watch "House" or "CSI" in full HD resolution?
Now you can on your Mac without a widescreen TV or expensive set top box. For as little as $199 Elgato make a nifty little device with amazing possibilities.
Elgato have introduced a range of HD TV hardware systems for Mac OS X. We have been testing various pieces of hardware in order to better understand the possible viable alternatives when using these devices on a Mac.
EyeTV, the award winning software by Elgato now gives you a subscribable XML file from IceTV that updates via your internet connection. This feed gives the scheduled recording aspect a very accurate guide and also shows you what time particular shows are on. EyeTV also works with your Mac IR remote control unit.

The most affordable device is the EyeTV for DTT at $199 RR. The package includes an antenna and coax input alternative, software and USB cable. In testing it seems to run flawlessly provided you have an external antenna connected to the Elgato via coax. Signal strength was not suitable for mobile antenna use, although your experience may vary.
The second unit tested was the Elgato EyeTV diversity at $349 RR. This unit is almost identical but has two antennas and comes with it's own remote control. The idea of the second antenna is that two streams can be accessed at the same time. A picture in picture is available as is watching one channel and recording another. In theory you can record two shows at once. Also the two antenna system greatly improves mobile reception.
Also available are various other devices designed for cable TV recording and Satellite.
Having used the devices on both small and large screen we are convinced one of these devices will change the way you view TV. The image quality is startling and at native resolution of 1920 X 1080
on a 23 inch display they make a strong case for using that 23 inch iMac as a TV. Pause live TV, edit out adverts as you watch live. Also there are various ways of using your Mac to record programs, and use your HD TV to view.
We are trialling some streaming alternatives including the soon to ship Apple TV. The AppleTV uses high speed 80211n wireless networking to stream 1280 X 720 HD to your TV. Elgato are working to create an automatic export to iTunes® in this format for this purpose.
There are also other alternatives using Elgato hardware and Apple® computers to create a full media center system for your home theater.
Also in the works is a piece of custom hardware we are developing that will provide every conceivable functional element in home theater technology including BlueRay record and playback.

Recently we have started to use the Open source blog/CMS application, Word Press to get content up online for numerous sites including our own.
This application has numerous advantages in the current state of play. Google treats blog entries a little differently to normal content. Having a weekly blog makes your searchable content both rich in searchability and current in nature.
It is a free application and is constantly upgraded and refined. It can also deliver any media content you create like photos, video, audio or pdf's.
