The Coles Head Office complex in Tooronga has long been held up as one of the finest examples of planter box and on-slab planting in Melbourne. Time and time again, Landscape Architects have given evidence in VCAT, stating that planter box and on-slab planting is possible. The Coles building is often used as the best example in Melbourne.

In an attempt to increase the numbers of Yarra Gum within their municipality, the Shire of Yarra Ranges in association with Tree Logic, has now embarked on a tree planting program that will see the establishment of 300 advanced plantings of Yarra Gum within various sites. Planting will take place along the Melba Highway, around Lilydale Lake and in various other locations in Coldstream and Yarra Glen. Not widely used outside revegetation works, the species shows promise as an amenity species, particularly in sites prone to waterlogged conditions.
The Yarra Gum (Eucalyptus yarraensis) is a rare and threatened species with limited natural distribution, the largest populations are confined primarily to the Yarra Valley between Dixons Creek to the north, Warrandyte in the west, Gruyere to the east and Lilydale in the south (Dept. of Sustainability and Environment 2011). Other scattered occurrences have been reported through central Victoria between Ararat to Traralgon (Brooker & Kleinig 2006).
