Protest Against Channel Dredging and Truck Traffic Hi there, welcome to the MTAG news, Currently we have 20,000 trucks a day on our streets and half of them are going to and from the port, this is already creating an unbearable situation. With channel dredging and port expansion the number of trucks, according to the Ports own figures, will increase exponentially. MTAG is calling for immediate measures to get port traffic off the suburban streets of the inner West including a 24-hour ban on through truck traffic to stop the rat run to the port. This traffic is not a nuisance, its a menace, and with dredging and port expansion its going to get even worse. We are planning a peaceful protest held with the full cooperation of Victoria Police, which is blocking traffic for around a kilometer in each direction. This is a safe, family friendly action. Bring your kids on the way to school. Wear something yellow or bring something yellow to wave. Wear a gas mask if you have one. We will supply placards, or make your own if you wish. Procedural information will be on the front page of the site. |
